Join us this summer as we reach out to children in local communities to help keep their reading skills sharp and to provide a welcomed meal.

June 17 – August 14, 2019

10:00am – 12:00pm

Mondays at The Oaks, Tuesdays at Casa de Luna, Wednesdays at Raleigh Millbank[/

  • Every summer, low-income youth lose 2 to 3 months of reading while they’re higher income peers make slight gains.
  • By Fifth Grade, summer reading loss can leave low income students 2 1/2 to 3 years behind their peers.
  • 6 out of every 7 students who receive free-and-reduced priced lunches lose access to them when school lets out.

Statistics from the National Summer Learning Association

We are hosting a “Read and Feed” program in 3 communities, and we are looking for volunteers to read one-on-one, help with the provided lunch, and most importantly build relationships with the kids.  Children of volunteers may participate, plus middle and high school students are also welcomed to read with the younger children.
