ADOPT-A-BLOCK

Adopt-A-Block started with just a few friends joining us in delivering free groceries to under-resourced communities and picking up trash.  As more and more volunteers came, we have spread out over the city.

In 2014, Pastor Jeremy Porras began prayer-walking through neighborhoods in Raleigh, picking up trash and knocking on doors to ask, “How can I serve you?” It became apparent that food insecurity is a major issue in Wake County, with 1 in 6 people not knowing where their next meal would come from.

Jeremy began partnering with local agencies to deliver free groceries right to their community in the hopes to deepen relationships and share the gospel of Christ.

Today, the Lord has expanded the Adopt-A-Block efforts into 11 different communities and has reached thousands of families facing difficult circumstances.  We want to show the love of Christ by building relationship through fellowship right in the communities.

Through Adopt-A-Block, we make it our goal to always share the gospel and to come alongside and empower families and neighborhoods, bringing fulfillment to the DREAM of what God has for their lives.

building relationships in communities

This is Raleigh Dream Center’s primary way of changing the atmosphere and building transformational relationships by being present in local neighborhoods. The strength of Adopt-A-Block is its ability to build strong, lasting relationships within the community that will allow us to speak into someone’s potential and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Each event lasts 2 hours where we knock on doors, provide groceries for households, pick up trash, play with children, and have intentional Gospel conversations. It’s family friendly, so kids are welcome. Our Adopt-A-Block program provides over 10,000 pounds of groceries each month at no cost to under-resourced communities.

For our volunteers, we ask that you understand the power of your personal testimony and sharing the gospel in love. For an easy way to share the gospel, you can download the "Gospel U" evangelism format.

Back2School Bash

SATURDAY, AUGUST 13, 2022

Our yearly Back2School Bash is a highlight when we are able to help these children with a new backpack filled with school supplies, a gospel track and a handwritten note of encouragement. By giving a backpack, it can change a child’s future by helping them excel in school. It also helps them socially by feeling accepted on that first day of school with all the supplies they need. Our goal is to provide 2,500 backpacks to the children in the communities we serve in consistently.

Christmas Toy Giveaway

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2022

Be sure to mark your calendars for one of our biggest Adopt-A-Blocks! We will spend about two hours passing out free groceries on site, playing with kids, praying with people, and have a special gospel presentation. Because of the relationships we have built with the children, this day is a special one to be able to hand out wrapped presents and speak into their potential and who they are in Christ!

You can help by hosting a toy drive, volunteering or fund this special event with a simple donation of $10 per toy!
